Sign Assembler

Due to the changing needs of the business a position has become available for a Sign Assembler. We are looking for a team player to understand and support the overall efficiency and meet deadlines where required. As a sign assembler, you will be expected to work in our production facility and to play an important role in the manufacture of a range of signage from supplied production drawings, utilising a range of materials and all to scheduled deadlines.

Experience in signage manufacture is essential. Applicants must be experienced in assembly with the ability to meet challenges, and work either individually or as part of the team on any given project, be proactive and work off their own initiative. These characteristics will be pivotal in order to succeed in this fast-paced environment. You will also be proficient in signage manufacture as a rounded and experienced sign maker. This role is a very varied role where no two jobs are the same.

 EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

You will be required to assemble signage components including:

  • Electrical assembly with led lighting modules and neon into built up letters and fascia signs
  • Bonding acrylic/Foamex, aluminium and composite panels
  • Be competent in using hand and power tools, pillar drills and saws
  • Working with adhesives, bonding agents and mechanical fixings
  • Working with all aspects of quality to create a finished product
  • To accurately follow production drawings, ensuring manufactured products / parts meet client specification and brief
  • To be able to work under pressure to meet allocated production timescales
  • Positive and proactive approach to work
  • Experience in a manual, practical environment
  • Knowledge and understanding of Health & Safety and good working practices

 KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Experience with and operating hand tools
  • Experience and understanding of electrical wiring
  • Have good organisational and communication skills
  • Be able to work on your own initiative and as part of a team
  • Ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to overcome challenges
  • Punctual and flexible including overtime to support the needs of the business
  • Minimum 12 months experience in a similar role

WORKING CONDITIONS

Full time position – 40.25 hours per week. Working conditions are normal for a Production Facility operation. Reporting to the Assembly supervisor and Production Manager. The rate of pay is dependent on experience and will be up to £10.00 p/h. You will also receive 20 days holiday plus statutory bank holidays.

Installation - Sign Fitters Mate (Manchester Area)

WE ARE SPECIFICALLY LOOKING FOR FITTERS MATES WHO LIVE IN THE MANCHESTER AREA. OTHER AREAS IN THE IMMEDIATE VICINITY OF MANCHESTER MAY BE CONSIDERED.

The location of the Head office is Unit 1, First Avenue, Trafford Park, Manchester, M17 1JZ. Although this is the base of work, you will be required to travel to various locations to suit the business’s needs. Core operating hours are 7.30am – 4:30 pm Monday to Thursday and 7:30am to 3:30pm on Friday. You may be required to work outside these hours to satisfy customers and suppliers demands.

REPORTING

To report to the head sign fitter

PURPOSE

The primary purpose of this position is to work within the Installation Department, supporting the head fitter in the installation of a variety of sign types employing various different skills. In this role, you will also learn from the head fitter, the Installation Manager, and other support staff in order become a competent sign fitter. This requires being observant, inquisitive and getting involved in all aspects of the job at hand. We take the Health & Safety of our staff very seriously, therefore the successful candidate will observe all the Health & Safety procedures set by Astra Signs and any client specific requirements. A flexible approach to work and a willingness to work in is a must, as you may be asked to work unsociable hours, or within different departments to suit the requirements of the business. The following qualifications/certifications are desirable, but not necessary: CSCS, IPAF & PASMA; however additional/subsequent training will be offered.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • Successful candidates will have the following attributes:
  • Good communication skills (and the ability to read and write in English)
  • Be numerate and have an understanding of arithmetic
  • Must not be colour blind or severely visually impaired
  • Great attention to detail
  • Good head for heights, a lot of our work is from MEWPs, scaffolding and other access equipment
  • Driving licence is essential due to long journeys
  • A general knowledge of use of power tools and general hand tools
  • Excellent punctuality
  • Good personality as we are working with the customers on site
  • The ability to work well with others
  • Able to work the occasional weekend and out of town, to suit the business and customer needs
  • Minimum 1 year’s sign installation experience
